Lasagna recipe one-day class

Ingredients

This recipe serves 6.

Meat Sauce (Ragu):

Celery (chopped) 2 stalks
Garlic (minced) 3 cloves
Tomato sauce 800g
Tomato paste 2 tbsp
Olive oil 2 tbsp

Black pepper To taste
Italian seasoning 1 tbsp
Red wine 1/2 cup
Fresh basil 1/4 cup

Béchamel Sauce:

All-purpose flour 60g
Milk 4 cups
Salt 1 tsp
Black pepper To taste
Nutmeg A pinch

Lasagna Noodles and Cheese:

Lasagna noodles 12 sheets
Mozzarella cheese 2 cups, grated
Parmesan cheese 1 cup, grated

Instructions

Prepare the Meat Sauce (Ragu):

  1. Heat Olive Oil:
    • Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. Cook Vegetables:
    • Add chopped onion, carrot, and celery to the pan. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
    • Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  3. Cook Meat:
    • Add ground beef to the pan and cook until browned.
  4. Add Wine:
    • Pour in the red wine and cook until the alcohol evaporates.
  5. Add Tomato Ingredients:
    • Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Simmer on low heat for 30 minutes.
    • Add fresh basil at the end and stir well.

Prepare the Béchamel Sauce:

  1. Make the Roux:
    • In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
    • Add flour and stir continuously for 2-3 minutes until golden.
  2. Add Milk:
    • Gradually whisk in the milk, continuing to stir until the sauce thickens, about 10 minutes.
  3. Season:
    • Add salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg. Stir to combine.

Prepare the Lasagna Noodles:

  1. Cook Noodles:
    • Boil a large pot of salted water.
    • Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and lightly coat with olive oil to prevent sticking.

Assemble the Lasagna:

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Layering:
    • Spread a thin layer of béchamel sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
    • Add a layer of lasagna noodles, followed by a layer of meat sauce, then another layer of béchamel sauce.
    • Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
    • Repeat layers, finishing with a layer of béchamel sauce and a generous amount of cheese on top.
  3. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  4. Serve:
    • Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.

    • Enhance the flavor with fresh parsley or thyme in addition to basil.
  2. Vegetable Additions:
    • Include mushrooms, spinach, or zucchini for added texture and nutrition.

    • Adjust the béchamel sauce consistency by adding more roux if too thin or more milk if too thick.
